About Us
Simple Contracting. Simply Great Results.
How Badgerland Was Born
Owner AJ Stoffels spent his early years working all across the U.S. building roofs. But in 2009 things began to change. He saw common gaps between what customers were saying they wanted, and what roofing companies were delivering on a national scale. He decided then and there to be a force for positive change. Badgerland Exteriors was created in Sauk City, and has been serving customers faithfully for over a decade.
Core Values to Live By
At Badgerland, we don’t just list our values for show. We demonstrate them through our actions, each and every day. We believe that treating others with respect and delivering outstanding results is the bare minimum, and around here? We like to go above and beyond. Want to know what to expect when you hire us? Here’s what we focus on.
Integrity
We're up front and sell products that were confident in and would install on our own homes. We say what we do, and do what we say.
Always Growing
Our main drive in business is to constantly improve to better serve our clients.
Working Together
Teamwork in our company is crucial for us to maintain a satisfied client base.
Loyalty
Our loyalty to our customers and community are a cornerstone to our success.
We Work Hard
Consistency in our day to day operations are a must for us to survive. Strong work ethic will set us apart from our competitors.
Why Choose Us?
Homeowners across America have similar complaints when it comes to working with roofing contractors: poor communication, unfair pricing, and shoddy results that don’t last. We do things differently by taking the roof replacement process from stressful to peaceful. You can count on us to do exactly what we promise to do, whether that be showing up promptly or sticking to our upfront estimate.

We’re continuing our Insurance Jargon series with “date of loss.”
“Date of loss” refers to when damage happened to your home, not when it was first noticed. And in Wisconsin, it’s often what starts the clock for filing a claim. In many cases, homeowners have 12 months to file.
For many of our Madison-area homeowners affected by the recent storms, April 14th will be your date of loss.
Even if you’ve been through the process before, insurance can get complicated.
We’re the roofing people, but insurance is part of the process.
We help you understand what to do next and stay with you throughout the claim.
Insurance conversations don’t always end at the first visit.Sometimes it takes a second set of eyes to make sure nothing important gets missed.
“When the insurance inspector came out… there were things that were missed. The whole project wasn’t going to have coverage. AJ stepped in, walked through the damage, and made sure everything was accounted for so we could move forward.”

🤝 meet the team 🤝
Do we have a treat for you.
One of our newest team members, Joe Bauernhuber, has a background that’s a little more eventful than most of ours.
Rather than rewrite it, we figured we’d let Joe tell it in his own words.
Joe is an award-winning designer and illustrator with more than 20 years of experience creating visual solutions across the fitness, publishing, and healthcare industries. Known for his versatility and storytelling through visual design, he has built a career combining creativity, technical skill, and industry knowledge. Since 2023, he has also expanded his work into the trades industry.
Joe has also worked in film as an extra, stand-in, and actor in productions including Chain Reaction, Public Enemies, and The Wafer King, where he also illustrated storyboards for the television series. He has written two original screenplays.
He studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Madison College, along with Fire Science, and proudly served the Poynette community for 11 years as a volunteer firefighter.
Joe lives in Sauk City with his wife Jennie, their family, and granddaughter Estelle.
We’re excited for your success, Joe!
Bringing this one back because we could all use a little fun.
Roofing day explanations: easy.
Saying them on camera in one take: impossible?
Thankfully, only one of those is our full-time job.

You might not have even had an inspection yet.
But you might still hear this: “Did you have damage? Did you file a claim?”
After a storm, there’s a lot of language that gets thrown around quickly. That’s usually one of the first things that comes up.
We’re breaking down the insurance terms homeowners hear all the time, but don’t always get explained. Starting with: claim.
Even if you’ve been through the process before, insurance can get complicated.
We’re the roofing people, but insurance is part of the process. We’re here to help you navigate things from inspection through adjustment.
Tuesday’s storm came through in pockets. Some neighborhoods got hit, some barely saw anything.
Here’s where we’ve been seeing signs of damage:
• Middleton
• Verona
• Cross Plains
• North Madison & Maple Bluff
• East Madison
• Sun Prairie
• Cottage Grove
Some of the marks we’re seeing might not look like much at first glance.
But when shingles take a hit and lose granules, it can shorten their lifespan. It also leaves things more exposed over time.
That’s a big part of why storm damage is often covered. It’s about preventing bigger issues later on.
If your area was in the path, it might be worth checking out.
It’s a simple way to understand what your roof has been through heading into the next stretch of weather.
The storms this week have been a lot. And there may be more coming.
AJ put together these next steps based on what we’re seeing out there right now. Our team is already out inspecting roofs and helping homeowners make sense of it all.
Not every roof needs a claim. Not every issue is obvious from the ground.
That’s why an inspection comes first.
We’ll take a look, document what we see, and walk you through your options. If there’s damage, we’ll help guide you through the next steps. If not, you’ll have peace of mind heading into the next stretch of weather.
👀 What We’re Seeing 👀
Our inboxes have been filled with friends and family sharing the large hail around the Madison area. It’s been a wild weather day across Wisconsin!
